VAT Services For Business returns help and advice

For some businesses VAT is relatively straight forward and simply represents a quarterly chore, for others it is much more involved.

All businesses must now comply with Making Tax Digital and if you are involved with the construction business you may have to deal with the new "domestic reverse charge".

 My services include the following.

  • Deciding if you should be registered for VAT and when to register.
  • VAT registrations.
  • Help deciding on the most appropriate VAT scheme for your business.
  • Compliance with Making Tax Digital (MTD) for VAT.
  • I can prepare quarterly, monthly or annual returns for you.
  • Or I can review what you have prepared and and advise about any necessary corrections.
  • I can help with partial exemption calculations where part of your business is subject to VAT and part is to do with an "exempt" activity.
  • I can carry out reviews to check that old decisions about registration and schemes are still appropriate.
  • Applications to de-register for VAT.
  • Help and advice with specialist areas through my team of trusted experts.
When you really should get help with VAT

With planning then many VAT problems can be minimised so it is important to get help and advice before you carry out any transactions.  Some of the more common areas that cause problems are:
  • When the same business sells goods or services that are exempt from VAT and others to which VAT applies.
  • If you are thinking of registering for Flat Rate VAT, especially if your business is not incorporated.
  • If you are selling goods on behalf as someone else as you may be an agent.
  • Selling or transferring a business.
  • If your business is dealing in more than one type of property transaction.  Residential letting, commercial letting new residential builds, commercial builds and sale of existing properties all have different rules and it is best to take advice.  For example building a new residential property for sale and then changing your mind and renting it out can cause unexpected tax bills.
If you are in doubt at all it pays to get advice.  Underpaid VAT can attract interest and penalties which can be a substantial proportion of the tax due.
